This is my all-time favourite breakfast and me and my husband eat it most mornings.

It has all colours of the rainbow and is super healthy!

It’s also very simple and quick to make – shouldn’t take you more than five minutes (and you’ll probably eat it even faster!)

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Granola of your choice
  2. Seasonal fruits of your choice
  3. Dessicated coconut
  4. NZ Honey Co Manuka Honey
  5. Full cream milk (or plant based milk if you prefer)
  6. Yogurt

Granola

We are spoiled for choice for granola in New Zealand. Some of our favourites are Blue Frog and Little Bird, but you can choose any granola you wish, or even just go with plain rolled oats.

We like to get granola that has a good mixture of fruits, nuts and seeds, preferably sprouted, and some spices too like cinnamon or turmeric.

Fruits

As for fruits, the world is your oyster! Down here in New Zealand we eat a lot of pears, peaches, kiwifruits and passionfruit in our granola.

We also love blueberries during blueberry season, we actually have blueberries growing on our farm and we usually freeze enough during the season to last us the year.

Frozen blueberries are a real treat on granola!

Some other favourites for us are bananas and sometimes we even put – wait for it – sweet potato! In New Zealand we call this kumara and some soft boiled kumara actually goes wonderfully with a morning granola bowl.

Manuka honey

Of course we always put manuka honey on our granola bowl!

Recently we tried this new honey produced locally near us, which was quite delicious. It’s only available in New Zealand by a small apiary, but we love supporting small honey producers like ourselves!

If you’re looking for a high quality manuka honey to add to your breakfast we’d recommend the NZ Honey Co – it’s the highest graded honey we know of that ships internationally, and has stock in the US.

Milk

What’s granola without a topping of beautifully creamy milk!

We actually get our milk raw from a neighbour as you can see above, which is as creamy and delicious as it comes, but you can add any milk of your choice, even an almond or soy milk.

Yogurt

What’s breakfast without yogurt!

Not only does it add a ton of flavour and texture, it’s also packed with good probiotics that helps keep your gut and digestive health strong!

We love Raglan coconut yogurt, which is made here on New Zealand’s west coast, but choose whatever you fancy!

How To Make it

I’m guessing we don’t need to teach you how to make a bowl of cereal but in case you need a reminder – here you go!

  1. Fill a big bowl a quarter full of granola.
  2. Add your milk until it almost covers the granola.
  3. Chop your fruits into bite-sized pieces and scatter on top.
  4. Sprinkle the dessicated coconut.
  5. Add a dollop of yoghurt.
  6. Drizzle with manuka honey.
  7. Enjoy!

Erin

I'm Erin, and my family has been raising bees for over two generations. We no longer raise bees on Manuka flowers, but it remains one of our favorites, and we eat it daily, among other honeys like Kamahi and Rata. Since Manuka has grown in popularity overseas in recent years, we thought we should educate people on the true benefits of Manuka and how to find quality Manuka honey. Haere mai to our site, written by us and designed by our brilliant computer whiz of a son, Byron. We hope you find it helpful!
